Set up your Leapfin data warehouse
Table of contents
Overview
You can store and access your Leapfin data via your organization’s existing Snowflake account or by using Leapfin’s data warehouse. Accessing your Leapfin data using either of these methods allows you to make informed decisions based on insights and eliminates the engineering resources required to manage high volumes of data. You can also use your preferred business intelligence (BI) tool to run reports and analyze your Leapfin data using Snowflake as the data source.
This document describes how to set up your warehouse and connect your BI tools. It also includes information on data security, regional availability, limitations, and costs associated with your database.
Set up your database
Leapfin offers two methods by which to store your Leapfin data:
Method | Use if | Description | Setup instructions |
---|---|---|---|
Secure Data Share (preferred) | Your organization has an existing Snowflake account | Leapfin leverages Snowflake’s Secure Data Share to provide you with instant access to Leapfin data directly within your organization's Snowflake account. To use this method, your organization must have an existing Snowflake account. | Provide your Leapfin Support representative with the following information so they can set up your Secure Data Share:
|
Leapfin-hosted sub-account | Your organization does not have an existing Snowflake account. | You are provided with a Leapfin-hosted Snowflake sub-account from which you can access your Leapfin data. | Contact your Leapfin Support representative to set up a Leapfin-hosted sub-account. |
Once setup is complete, you will see the following databases in Snowflake:
LEAPFIN_DATA
LEAPFIN_SANDBOX (if available)
Within your Leapfin databases, Leapfin generates Snowflake views which you can use to query your data.
For detailed information on these views and how to query the data within, see Access and query your Leapfin data.
Connect your BI tools
Leapfin allows you to run in-depth reporting and analytics on your Leapfin data in Snowflake using your preferred Business Intelligence (BI) tools, such as Looker, Tableau, and Domo.
For a comprehensive list of supported BI tools and instructions on how to connect them, see Snowflake’s Business Intelligence (BI) documentation.
Data security
Leapfin takes the following measures to ensure your data is secure:
Your shared Snowflake database is only accessible via the Snowflake account that you provide.
If using a Leapfin-hosted sub-account, only your organization can access it.
Shared databases and Leapfin sub-account databases are read-only to preserve data integrity.
Leapfin cannot access data in your organization's Snowflake account.
Note: Visibility and access to the databases is controlled by your Snowflake administrator.
Available regions
Leapfin supports data sharing for Snowflake consumer accounts hosted in the following region:
Cloud | Region |
---|---|
AWS | US West 2 (Oregon) |
Limitations
Google Cloud Platform and Azure are not yet supported for cross-cloud availability.
Cross-region availability is not yet supported (US West 2 only).
For customers with sub-accounts, Leapfin pays for up to ten monthly credits worth of computing costs, which equates to roughly ten hours of query processing time. Contact Leapfin Customer Success if you anticipate a high volume of queries.
Note: There are currently no limits on how much data Leapfin will share with your Snowflake account.
Associated costs
Account type | Storage costs | Computing costs |
---|---|---|
Secure Data Share | Leapfin covers all Snowflake storage costs for the shared database. Your organization will not incur any additional storage costs when using Leapfin's shared database. | Leapfin does not cover Snowflake computing costs for querying the shared database. Your organization pays Snowflake directly for computing costs incurred from querying the shared database. In addition, access to the shared database will involve additional Leapfin license fees. |
Leapfin-hosted sub-account | Leapfin pays for up to ten monthly credits worth of computing costs, which equates to roughly ten hours of query processing time. Contact Leapfin Customer Success if you anticipate a high volume of queries. |
